Our Story

The Midnight Baker is a family owned and operated artisan bakery offering handmade scratch pastry and baked goods. Our mission to bake the world a batter place!

In 2019, we joined the Barrhaven Farmer's Market at The Log Farm and have grown in leaps and bounds since then. Despite life being turned upside-down through the pandemic and quarantine we officially moved into a commercial kitchen April 2020. This allowed us to expand the business beyond the farmers' market.

Summer 2021 has seen us at a variety of farmers' markets including a regular spot with Ottawa Markets #ParkdaleNightMarket Wednesday nights. We've been so blessed to expand our network with so many amazing vendors this season!

Fall 2021 will look a little different as we move into offering more delivery & pickup options as well as continuing with The Log Farm #BarrhavenFarmersMarket on Saturdays.

Humble Beginnings
Baking is my super power. I've always loved to bake and I've always been a people person. Along way, I've learned to adapt, which is a key skill any entrepreneur needs. Dreams change and evolve. You start with one idea and you think, "This is it. This is the path that will get me to my goal." In reality, not all doors are open to us. Often when one door closes you end up with something even better than you had ever imagined. That's what it's been like for me since I started this business.

Baking has been a passion since I learned to make my first lemon meringue pie in Girl Guides a million years ago. I've baked for coworkers at nearly every job I've ever had. In 2016, I was new to Instagram and I started hashtagging my late night Christmas baking as #TheMidnightBaker and the rest is as they say history. The Midnight Baker was born.

I've been baking nearly my whole life but I am self taught...or I was. When I decided to take my baking to the next level I intentionally applied for scratch baking jobs to receive hands on training. I worked with some truly amazing chefs and baking entrepreneurs. While starting The Midnight Baker I've worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time, from 17 hour days to 7 days a week. I am proud to say that as of June 2021 The Midnight Baker is no longer a side hustle.

Family Operated
All of this was preparing me for running my own business but I don't do it alone. My husband, Ben, runs the admin side of the business while learning to bake, so we can fulfill our baking quota and avoid burnout. Our kids also lend their helping hands with whatever needs to be done.
