My Story

Hello Loves! My name is Laura and baking is my super power. The Midnight Baker is a solopreneur artisan bakery offering handmade pastry and baked goods. My mission is to bake the world a batter place!
Along the way, I've learned to adapt, a key skill any entrepreneur needs. Dreams change and evolve. You start with one idea and you think, "This is it. This is the path that will get me to my goal." In reality, not all doors are open to us. Often when one door closes you end up with something even better than you had ever imagined. That's what it's been like for me since I started this business.
Feeding people has always been a passion of mine. In fact, baking has been my passion since before I realized I even had a passion! I've baked for coworkers at nearly every job I've ever had. In 2016, I started hashtagging my Christmas baking as #TheMidnightBaker and that's when it hit me. What a great idea for a business.
I've been baking nearly my whole life but I am self taught...or I was. When I decided to take my baking to the next level I intentionally applied for baking jobs to receive hands on training. I worked with some truly amazing chefs and baking entrepreneurs. While starting The Midnight Baker I've worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time, from 17 hour days to 7 days a week. All of this was preparing me for running my own business.
In 2019, my hard work paid off and I secured a spot for the season at The Log Farm Farmer's Market in Barrhaven, Ontario. I became a part of the vendor community and it really felt like family. When the market season ended I stumbled upon a non-profit organization Square Lemon and discovered they have regular craft shows. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things come February. There are some exciting events I'll be a part of in the coming months that I can't wait to tell you all about. I honestly believe 2020 will bring great things for The Midnight Baker!
