Our Story

The Midnight Baker is a family owned and operated artisan bakery offering handmade pastry and baked goods. Our mission to bake the world a batter place!
From our Pastry Chef - Laura:
Hello Loves! My name is Laura and baking is my super power. Along way, I've learned to adapt, which is a key skill any entrepreneur needs. Dreams change and evolve. You start with one idea and you think, "This is it. This is the path that will get me to my goal." In reality, not all doors are open to us. Often when one door closes you end up with something even better than you had ever imagined. That's what it's been like for me since I started this business.
Feeding people has always been a passion of mine. In fact, baking has been my passion since before I realized I even had a passion! I've baked for coworkers at nearly every job I've ever had. In 2016, I started hashtagging my Christmas baking as #TheMidnightBaker and that's when it hit me. What a great idea for a business.
I've been baking nearly my whole life but I am self taught...or I was. When I decided to take my baking to the next level I intentionally applied for baking jobs to receive hands on training. I worked with some truly amazing chefs and baking entrepreneurs. While starting The Midnight Baker I've worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time, from 17 hour days to 7 days a week.
All of this was preparing me for running my own business but I don't do it alone. My husband, Ben, runs the admin side of the business and all of my kids take part in helping prepare orders and delivery. Even my in-laws lend their helping hands with whatever needs to be done.
In 2019, we secured a spot for the season at The Log Farm Farmer's Market in Barrhaven, Ontario. We a part of the vendor community and it really felt like family. When the market season ended I stumbled upon a non-profit organization Square Lemon and discovered they have regular craft shows.
Despite life being turned upside-down through the pandemic and quarantine we have officially moved into a commercial kitchen! We are now working out of a shared kitchen with The Lunch Lady and we are so thankful for all the support and encouragement you've all shown us.
Thank you for supporting local!
